"Army maintains high operational readiness despite flash floods in Sikkim"

"The Army assures that the flash floods in Sikkim are not affecting its operational preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and efforts are underway to rescue stranded tourists."

The Indian Army has confirmed that the recent flash floods in Sikkim's hinterland have not impacted its operational readiness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the state. Despite some of its camps being washed away by the floods, the formations responsible for border management are maintaining a high state of readiness. This announcement comes amidst rescue efforts to save around 1,500 tourists stranded in North Sikkim and recovery operations for soldiers who went missing after a cloudburst.

The Army stated that although inland areas of Sikkim have been affected by flash floods, it has ensured stability along LAC in Sikkim. The formations responsible for Border Management Posture are optimally stocked as per sustainable operational logistics plans and continue to maintain an elevated state of preparedness.

Rescue Operations Underway

Approximately 1,500 tourists are estimated to be stranded due to flooding in Lachung and Lachen valleys located in North Sikkim. Efforts are currently underway by local authorities and armed forces personnel to rescue these individuals.

Damages Incurred By The Army

The devastating flash floods caused damage to several Army camps situated along the banks of Teesta river which were swept away. However, this has not deterred or compromised their operational capability or readiness at any level.

Soldiers Missing After Cloudburst

In an unfortunate incident related to these natural calamities, eight soldiers lost their lives when they were part of a group comprising 22 army personnel that went missing following flash floods triggered by a cloudburst over South Lhonak lake located in North Sikkim.

In conclusion, despite facing adversities from natural disasters such as flash floods and cloudbursts, the Indian Army has shown resilience in maintaining its operational readiness along the LAC in Sikkim. The armed forces are also actively involved in rescue operations to save stranded tourists while dealing with their losses. This incident highlights the dual role of our armed forces as protectors of national security and first responders during natural disasters. It is a testament to their commitment, courage and dedication towards serving our nation under challenging circumstances.
