Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi Warns Pakistan, Says ‘Operation Sindoor Was Just A Trailer’

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi delivered a firm message on terrorism, Pakistan's role, and India's evolving security environment, asserting that the swift 88-hour Operation Sindoor was "just a trailer." He warned that any country engaged in state-sponsored terrorism poses a serious threat to India, which remains committed to development and stability. Asserting full readiness, General Dwivedi said the Army is prepared to handle any future scenario. "If Pakistan gives a chance, we will teach it how to behave responsibly with a neighbouring nation," he said.

India Prepared for Multi-Domain Warfare

General Dwivedi underlined that modern warfare has expanded across multiple domains. "We cannot say how long it will last. We have to ensure we have supplies to last long," he noted. He emphasised that any obstruction created for India will invite a decisive response. Reiterating India's long-standing position, he stated that "talks and terror can't go together," and India seeks only a peaceful and stable process, which it is willing to support.

Firm Stand on Terrorism and Its Sponsors

The Army Chief reiterated that India will act with equal determination against terrorists and those who support them. "We will treat terrorists and their sponsors alike. We will respond to those who encourage terrorists," he said. Affirming India's strategic confidence, he added that the nation is strong enough and "not scared of any blackmail attempts."

Comments on India-China Border Developments

General Dwivedi also addressed the situation along the India-China border, stating that major improvements have taken place over the past year. Leaders on both sides have held discussions, and several positive measures have been implemented since October 1 last year. Referring to the Defence Minister's visit, he recalled the message that the two countries must decide "whether the ice should melt or not." Both sides now recognise that enhanced dialogue will be beneficial.

Jammu and Kashmir Moving Toward Greater Stability

The Army Chief said Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing notable shifts, with people expressing a desire to travel across India and take advantage of wider opportunities. Many who had moved out earlier are now willing to return and contribute positively. "India too wants to strengthen its connection with the region," he added.

India's Defence Capabilities Strengthening

Speaking about India's strengthening defence posture, General Dwivedi highlighted that the country's military capability and deterrence have been improving consistently. He pointed to major changes in Kashmir since August 5, 2019, including greater political clarity. Educational institutions have expanded rapidly, with the number of schools increasing by 21 per cent, and IITs, IIMs and colleges growing across the region.

General Dwivedi also said terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly reduced. He confirmed that 31 militants and terrorists have been neutralised, of whom 21 were Pakistani. Despite the Pahalgam incident, the Amarnath Yatra saw a strong turnout. "Positive changes are taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. Stone pelting incidents have stopped entirely. The attraction toward India is growing and the fascination for Pakistan is fading," he added.
