TMC Challenges Anurag Thakur's Allegations Regarding Diamond Harbour Voters' List Irregularities
The Trinamool Congress has dismissed BJP MP Anurag Thakur's claims of significant irregularities in the Diamond Harbour voters' list as unfounded. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh provided factual data to counter Thakur's assertions, highlighting a modest increase in voter numbers.
The Trinamool Congress has dismissed allegations made by BJP MP Anurag Thakur regarding alleged "large-scale irregularities" in the voters' list of West Bengal's Diamond Harbour and nearby constituencies. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh labelled Thakur's claims as "bogus and baseless," suggesting that Thakur either lacks understanding of the local situation or is intentionally spreading misinformation.

On Thursday, Abhishek Banerjee, TMC's national general secretary, sent an emissary to Thakur's New Delhi residence. The emissary delivered a flash drive containing verified data on the electoral rolls of Diamond Harbour and its neighbouring seats. Ghosh stated, "These records, containing the verified details of all voters, have been sent to him."
Claims of Voter List Irregularities
Thakur had claimed a 15 per cent increase in voters in Diamond Harbour over four years. However, Ghosh countered this by stating that the actual increase was 4.70 per cent in Diamond Harbour and 4.09 per cent in Falta constituency. He urged Thakur to visit the area and meet residents to see the truth firsthand.
Thakur alleged that out of 1,724 booths in Diamond Harbour, 301 saw a 15 per cent voter increase, all won by TMC. He questioned if this was due to fake voting facilitated by TMC's control over government officials and election agents. "Where is Abhishek Banerjee?" he asked, implying manipulation in election outcomes.
Response from Trinamool Congress
Ghosh responded by calling Thakur's figures "misleading" and gathered with insufficient research. He cited Booth No. 265 in Diamond Harbour as an example, where there are currently 41 electors. He explained discrepancies such as one deceased voter and others who moved away for various reasons.
Ghosh challenged Thakur to review the official data provided and visit the constituency to verify his claims. He emphasised that spreading misinformation from afar is unhelpful and urged Thakur to engage directly with the community.
The TMC maintains that their electoral success is legitimate and not due to any alleged manipulation or irregularities in voter registration. They continue to refute claims made by opposition parties regarding election processes in West Bengal.
