Anupriya Patel Demands Separate Ministry for Backward Classes Welfare, Caste Census
Union minister and Apna Dal Sonelal chief Anupriya Patel on Saturday demanded the creation of a separate ministry for the welfare of backward classes and stressed the need for a caste census to assess their true condition and formulate policies accordingly.
Union Minister and Apna Dal Sonelal Chief Anupriya Patel has demanded the creation of a separate ministry for the welfare of backward classes. She stressed the need for a caste census to assess their true condition and formulate policies accordingly.
Need for Caste Census

Addressing a function in Ayodhya on the occasion of the Apna Dal's foundation day, Patel said the party was formed to free Dalits and backward classes from the cycle of oppression. She said that even after 75 years of independence, the participation of Dalits and backward classes in all the pillars of democracy is not sufficient. She believes that only through a caste census can their true condition be assessed and policies prepared for their welfare.
Demand for Separate Ministry
Patel said that her party has been demanding a caste census since its inception. She also demanded that a separate backward classes welfare ministry should be set up on the lines of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. She argued that this would ensure that the specific needs of backward classes are addressed and that they are able to fully participate in society.
All-India Judicial Service
The minister also called for the establishment of an all-India judicial service. She said that this would provide promising youths from the Dalit and backward classes with the opportunity to become judges. This would help to increase the diversity of the judiciary and ensure that the interests of all sections of society are represented.
Apna Dal Sonelal's Growth
The Apna Dal Sonelal chief said that the party has achieved the distinction of being the third largest party in Uttar Pradesh due to the hard work of crores of party workers and supporters. She urged them to take the party to even greater heights by taking its ideas and principles to the people.
Targeting Samajwadi Party
Patel also targeted Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, saying that his party has always worked to break the Apna Dal. She said that in 2002, the Samajwadi Party lured away three of the Apna Dal's MLAs. However, she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his work to advance the cause of Dalits and backward classes.
The Apna Dal Sonelal is committed to the welfare of backward classes and will continue to fight for their rights. The party believes that a caste census and the creation of a separate ministry for backward classes welfare are essential steps in achieving this goal.
