Odisha High Court Ends Anubhav Mohantys Troubled Marriage

The Orissa High Court has put an end to the tumultuous marriage of BJD MP and Odia actor Anubhav Mohanty, granting him a divorce from his wife Varsha Priyadarshini due to cruelty and fear of intimacy.

In a significant development, the Orissa High Court has granted divorce to Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP and renowned Odia actor Anubhav Mohanty from his wife Varsha Priyadarshini. The decision came after a prolonged legal battle between the estranged couple, marked by multiple lawsuits and public disputes.

High Court Quashes Earlier Ruling

A division bench of the high court, comprising justices Arindam Sinha and Sibo Sankar Mishra, overturned an earlier ruling by a local family court that had dismissed Mohanty's appeal for divorce in September 2022. The division bench meticulously examined the case and determined that Mohanty had indeed faced cruelty from his spouse, particularly in the form of her apprehension towards intimacy following their marriage in 2014.

Grounds for Divorce Established

Based on this compelling evidence, the high court declared the marriage between Mohanty and Priyadarshini to be dissolved through a decree of divorce under Section 131IB of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. Mohanty's counsel, Lalitendu Mishra, confirmed the judgment, highlighting the court's recognition of the cruelty inflicted upon his client.

Legal Battle and Social Media Spats

The divorce proceedings between Mohanty and Priyadarshini have been protracted and contentious. Mohanty initially filed a divorce lawsuit in a New Delhi court in 2019, which was subsequently transferred to the Cuttack family court in 2020 by the Supreme Court upon Priyadarshini's plea. During this period, both parties engaged in a series of complaints and lawsuits against each other, seeking intervention from local police stations and magisterial courts.

The situation escalated to the point where the estranged couple resorted to public mudslinging on social media platforms. In response, the high court intervened in May 2022, issuing a restraining order to prevent Mohanty and Priyadarshini from engaging in further ugly spats on social media. They were prohibited from posting or uploading any videos related to their troubled marriage.

The Orissa High Court's decision to grant divorce to Anubhav Mohanty brings an end to a tumultuous chapter in the lives of the estranged couple. The court's meticulous examination of the case and its recognition of the cruelty faced by Mohanty underscore the importance of upholding the rights and well-being of individuals within marital relationships.
