In a new twist to the South Calcutta Law College gangrape case, another female student has come forward accusing Monojit Mishra, the main accused, of molesting and threatening her during a college trip two years ago.

Another Kolkata Law Student Accuses Monojit Mishra of Molestation in Fresh Complaint

The survivor, speaking to India Today TV, alleged that Mishra-a leader of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP)-had not only assaulted her but also intimidated her with threats to harm her family if she spoke up. The student claimed around 15 other female students were subjected to similar harassment by Mishra.

Oneindia has not independently verified these claims.

Political Influence and Fear of Reprisal

When asked why she remained silent at the time, the student said she feared retaliation due to Mishra's alleged political clout. She claimed Mishra was shielded by Trinamool MLA and college board president Ashok Kumar Deb and that police complaints against him had previously gone unaddressed.

Mishra's History of Violence

Mishra has reportedly been involved in multiple cases of aggression. In April this year, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and vandalising a patrol vehicle. The incident reportedly began at an ATM kiosk near the college, where Mishra entered with a lit cigarette. After a confrontation with the security guard, he allegedly assaulted the guard and later scuffled with police officers who arrived at the scene.

On June 28, Mishra was arrested alongside two other students for allegedly gangraping a fellow law student on campus. The woman alleged that Mishra raped her after she rejected his marriage proposal, while the other two accused watched. A college security guard was also arrested for allegedly ignoring the crime and failing to alert authorities.

The case has led to widespread political outrage in West Bengal, with the BJP accusing the Trinamool Congress of protecting Mishra. The opposition has demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation, citing a deteriorating law and order situation. In response, the TMC has denied the charges and accused the BJP of politicising the incident.
