Indian mother of two returns from Pakistan after marrying Facebook friend

An Indian mother of two children, who travelled to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend, returned to India through the Wagah-Attari border on Wednesday.

Amritsar, Punjab: Anju, a 34-year-old Indian mother of two, returned to India on Wednesday through the Wagah-Attari border after traveling to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend, Nasrullah. Anju, also known as Fatima, had left her children in India to travel to a remote village in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to marry Nasrullah.

Anjus Incredible Journey: From India to Pakistan and Back

Anju's Journey to Pakistan

Anju had traveled to Pakistan via the Wagah-Attari border in July with a visa. After arriving in Pakistan, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Fatima. She then married Nasrullah, whom she had befriended on Facebook four years ago.

Return to India

On Wednesday, Anju returned to India accompanied by her 29-year-old Pakistani husband, Nasrullah. However, upon reaching India, she was not allowed to interact with the media and was immediately taken to the airport to catch a flight to Delhi.

Anju's Statement

At the Shri Guru Ramdas International Airport in Amritsar, Anju was spotted wearing a burqa. She told the media, "I am here in India to meet my Indian family. I came back to India of my own volition."

Anju's Family in India

Anju's Indian husband, Arvind, had previously stated that she left home on the pretext of going to Jaipur. However, the family later discovered that she was in Pakistan. Anju and Arvind used to live in the Bhiwadi area of Rajasthan, and she hails from Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh.

Police Response

On Wednesday, Bhiwadi's Additional Superintendent of Police, Dilip Saini, stated that they had no information about Anju's return. Police sources revealed that Arvind no longer resides in Bhiwadi and has relocated with their children to an undisclosed location.

Anju's return to India marks the end of a controversial journey that began with her decision to marry a Pakistani man she met on Facebook. Her story highlights the complexities of cross-border relationships and the challenges faced by women who choose to marry foreign nationals.
