Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Directs Officials to Develop Six-Month Plan for Power Sector Operations
Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has instructed officials to devise a comprehensive strategy for the power sector's seamless operation over the next six months. During a detailed review of the state's power utilities, he emphasised the government's dedication to ensuring an uninterrupted power supply across all sectors. This commitment includes increasing renewable energy production, particularly solar and wind, to meet the growing demand, especially during the summer months.

According to projections, peak power demand in Andhra Pradesh could reach 13,700 MW, with daily electricity consumption expected to be around 260 million units during the summer. The state is implementing projects worth Rs 15,508 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). These projects focus on smart metering, infrastructure development, and augmentation to enhance distribution efficiency and reduce losses.
Focus on Renewable Energy and Infrastructure
The state is prioritising modernising substations and upgrading transmission networks. Advanced metering solutions are being deployed to improve service quality and reliability. Kumar highlighted that these initiatives aim to ensure a consistent electricity supply throughout Andhra Pradesh. The transition of agricultural power supply to solar mode is also underway as part of sustainable energy goals.
Plans are in place to solarise approximately 1,200 agricultural feeders with a solar capacity of around 1600 MW. This initiative will provide daytime free power to nearly three lakh agricultural consumers. The move aims to achieve both environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Kumar reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to enhancing the state's power infrastructure.
Commitment to Sustainable Practices
The focus remains on ensuring reliable and quality power supply while promoting sustainable energy practices. Special emphasis is placed on boosting renewable energy production in response to increased demand during summer. The government is determined to provide uninterrupted electricity across all sectors by modernising infrastructure and adopting advanced technologies.
Kumar stated that these efforts are crucial for meeting the rising power demand efficiently. By transitioning agricultural power supply to solar mode, Andhra Pradesh aims to support environmental sustainability while reducing costs for consumers. The state's initiatives reflect its dedication to achieving sustainable energy goals and improving overall service quality.
The ongoing projects under RDSS are designed to enhance power distribution efficiency significantly. By focusing on smart metering and infrastructure development, Andhra Pradesh aims to reduce losses and ensure a stable electricity supply throughout the state. These measures are essential for maintaining a reliable power infrastructure that meets future demands effectively.
