Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan of Andhra Pradesh has introduced a 100-day plan aimed at resolving fishermen's issues in Kakinada. The initiative focuses on practical solutions and includes discussions on coastal erosion and protective measures.

Fishermen's Concerns and Government Response

Kalyan highlighted that discussions are ongoing with fishermen in Machilipatnam and Antarvedi regarding fishing and fish landing challenges. He promised that all issues would have initial solutions within 100 days. "We will ensure fishermen's lives are secure and address their problems practically," he stated in a Janasena party press release.

The Deputy Chief Minister noted that coastal erosion is a significant concern, particularly at Uppada, where the coast recedes about 25 meters annually. The NDA coalition government aims to find a permanent solution soon. Discussions with the District Collector and senior officials focused on constructing a protective coastal wall, estimated to cost over Rs 300 crore under Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.

Addressing Environmental and Industrial Challenges

Kalyan pointed out alleged design flaws in harbours from the previous YSRCP government, which have damaged boats and fishing nets. An expert committee will be formed to explore corrective measures. On pollution, he stressed that industries must operate without harming livelihoods, with pollution audits along the Uppada coast set to be completed within a week.

He also emphasised the importance of maintaining an environmental balance amid industrial development. Aquaculture provides employment to lakhs and generates Rs 1.3 lakh crore in revenue. Kalyan underscored that the NDA alliance government's work transcends party lines, focusing on practical solutions for the community's benefit.

The Deputy Chief Minister's commitment to addressing these issues reflects a broader intent to improve the lives of fishermen through actionable plans rather than mere promises.
