Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating "outstanding personalities" to the Rajya Sabha. His remarks come after SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' won an Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards.

SS Rajamouli's father KV Vijayendra Prasad wrote the script for 'RRR'. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government last year.

KV Vijayendra Prasad has penned many successful movies that include 'Baahubali' series and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has left his stamp of quality in nominating members to the Rajya Sabha by choosing outstanding personalities who have made a mark in diverse fields such as Indian culture, social work and sports.

Shri V. Vijayendra Prasad, the scriptwriter of the film RRR, is one of the several exceptional people whom the Prime Minister nominated to the Rajya Sabha in July 2022. The scriptwriter from Andhra Pradesh has been associated with the creative world for decades. Last year, Prime Minister Modi ji recognised his greatness and said "his works showcase India's glorious culture and have made a mark globally." Today, the global spotlight is on 'RRR' for winning an Oscar for the original song 'Naatu Naatu'. This is a global endorsement of the Prime Minister's choice," the minister wrote on Facebook.

He then explained about other "illustrious nominated members of the Rajya Sabha by the BJP government.

"1. Shri Ilaiyaraaja from Tamil Nadu, one of the greatest Indian music composers of India. He has composed over 8,500 songs.

2. Smt. P. T. Usha from Kerala, also called the Golden Girl who won multiple gold medals for India in athletics in several international championships. Apart from accomplishments in sports, she has done commendable work in mentoring budding athletes for several years.

3. Shri Veerendra Heggade from Karnataka is another illustrious person nominated to Rajya Sabha. He is at the forefront of outstanding community service. He has done great work in health, education and culture.

4. Dr. Sonal Mansingh from Maharashtra was nominated to the Rajya Sabha for her phenomenal contribution to Indian culture. She is a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awards," he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is proud and elated with "Naatu Naatu" winning an Oscar, and hailed the song as one that will be remembered for years to come.

PM Modi Congratulates 'RRR' Team

He also congratulated the entire team of Tamil documentary "The Elephant Whisperers" after it created history at the 95th Academy Awards by becoming the maiden Indian production to win in the Documentary Short Subject category.

Reacting to the peppy, foot-tapping chartbuster from SS Rajamouli's Telugu period action film "RRR" winning the Academy Award in the Best Original Song category, PM Modi tweeted, "Exceptional! The popularity of 'Naatu Naatu' is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come."

"Congratulations to MM Keeravaani, Chandrabose and the entire team for this prestigious honour. India is elated and proud," he said. Naatu Naatu, "Naacho Naacho" in Hindi, is composed by Keeravaani and penned by Chandrabose.

In another tweet, Modi also congratulated director Kartiki Gonsalves, producer Guneet Monga and the entire team of "The Elephant Whisperers" for winning the Oscars. "Their work wonderfully highlights the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature," the Prime Minister said.
