Ampareen Lyngdoh Seeks to Change History in Shillong Lok Sabha Seat
In a significant political development from Shillong, Meghalaya, Ampareen Lyngdoh, a seasoned legislator with five terms under her belt, has officially entered the race for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat. Representing the National Peoples Party (NPP), Lyngdoh's candidacy marks a pivotal moment for the party, which is optimistic about her prospects of clinching a victory in a constituency long dominated by the Congress party. This move could potentially alter the political landscape of the region.

Lyngdoh's nomination, filed on Friday, distinguishes her as the first candidate to do so for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19. Her nomination was supported by prominent figures, including Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, as well as Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who accompanied her during the filing process.
The East Shillong legislator also took a moment to honor her late father, Peter Garnette Marbaniang, a former MP of Shillong, by paying tribute in front of his bust. This gesture highlighted her deep personal connections to the political fabric of Shillong.
Lyngdoh is set to face off against Vincent H Pala, a three-time MP and the current state Congress president. This electoral battle is anticipated to be closely watched, given the stature of both candidates within Meghalayan politics.
In preparation for her campaign, Lyngdoh embarked on an extensive tour covering 36 constituencies over approximately three and a half months. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed satisfaction with her efforts to understand the needs and aspirations of her potential constituents. "I feel satisfied that I am now familiar with what I need to do. I will try my best to serve to the best of my capacity," Lyngdoh stated.
Moreover, Lyngdoh emphasized the NPP's commitment to advancing Meghalaya's development through a well-defined blueprint. This strategy underscores the party's vision for progress and prosperity in the state.
As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Shillong's Lok Sabha seat, where Ampareen Lyngdoh's candidacy represents not just a challenge to the longstanding Congress dominance but also an opportunity for change in Meghalaya's political narrative.
