Amit Shah will have the same fate as Indira Gandhi, says KhaIistani Amritpal Singh [WATCH]

Amritpal Singh is the head of ‘Waris Punjab De’, a group founded by actor and activist Deep Sidhu, who died in a road accident in February last year.

Self-styled Sikh preacher and Khalistan activist Amritpal Singh Sandhu has issued a veiled threat to Home Minister Amit Shah, saying he would face a similar fate as Indira Gandhi.

Responding to a question on Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark that a close watch was being maintained surrounding Khalistan (sovereign state for Sikhs) activities and the government would not let it flourish, Singh said "if the government of India is actually a secular government, then tell me that has Prime Minister or Home Minister ever said that they will stop people who talk about 'Hindu Rashtra'. It means there's discrimination."

"Sikhs have their aspirations and Hindus have theirs, while they [Hindus] can freely talk about theirs, we can't. So, I firmly believe that the Khalistan movement can't be stopped from flourishing," he was quoted saying by The Hindu.

"Indira Gandhi attempted to stop, what was the result, this government can also try if they want to fulfil their desire. We have our heads on our hands. If we were scared of death, we wouldn't have chosen this path," he said.

Amritpal Singh Sandhu and his controversies

Amritpal Singh Sandhu is the second leader of the Punjabi-centric social organisation, Waris Panjab De. After the sudden death of Deep Sidhu, a letter was published by Waris Panjab De on 4 March 2022 declaring Amritpal Singh as the organisation's leader.

One of the ignoble achievements of Amritpal Singh Sandhu has been to deepen the communal poison of the Khalistani separatists with his rhetoric.

In January 2022, the late actor and activist Deep Sidhu had blocked the current leader of Waris Punjab De, Amritpal Singh for 15 days before his death.

In October 2022, the Christian community staged a four hours-long protest against Amritpal at PAP Chowk for his remarks about Jesus Christ.

"Jesus who could not save himself, how he will save everyone else?", Amritpal had reportedly said.

The protestors demanded that an FIR should be lodged against him under 295A of the IPC for "hurting religious sentiments and attempting to aggravate communal divisions".

Further, Amritpal Singh is known to have associated with the party which calls Shaheed Bhagat Singh a terrorist.

On 2 October 2022, the president of the Shiv Sena (Thackeray), Punjab youth wing held a press conference and urged the state government to arrest Amritpal for his seditious activities.

A few days later, on 7 October, his Twitter account was withheld in India for his remarks and pro-Khalistani tweets. The Ministry of Home Affairs also instructed the state government to remain vigilant over the activities of Amritpal.

In December 2022, Amritpal's supporters came under scrutiny for removing and burning chairs from a Sikh Gurdwara in Jalandhar.
