Amit Shah Criticises Jawaharlal Nehru, Alleges 'Blunder' In Jammu and Kashmir

At an election rally in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that a blunder was committed by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru through the implementation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

He further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was lauded for terminating the controversial law and hoisting the Indian flag in Kashmir, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Amit Shah Alleges Nehru's 'Blunder' in Jammu and Kashmir

"All the promises made since the establishment of the BJP have been fulfilled by PM Modi. Article 370 in Kashmir was put to an end by PM Modi on August 5, 2019, and the Indian flag was raised," he remarked. Additionally, Amit Shah commended PM Modi for laying the foundation stone for Ayodhya's Ram Temple and accused the Congress of overlooking the Ram Temple issue for decades.

Amit Shah highlighted that for 70 years, the issue of the Ram Temple at 'Ram Janmabhoomi' was neglected by the Congress party, while PM Modi not only laid the foundation stone but also conducted the 'Pran Pratistha' on January 22. The mention of Nehru by Amit Shah coincided with a day when external affairs minister S Jaishankar accused the former prime minister of deeming the Katchatheevu island a "nuisance", as reported by ANI.

Referring to an observation made by the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru in May 1961, Jaishankar stated, "No importance at all is attached to this little island, and there would be no hesitation in giving up our claim to it. Matters like this pending indefinitely and being raised again and again in parliament are not liked." He elaborated that Nehru perceived it as a little island with no significance, considering it a nuisance, and advocated for its prompt relinquishment.

This is not the first instance where Nehru has been held responsible by Amit Shah for the issues in Jammu and Kashmir.

Last year, in the Lok Sabha, it was stated by Amit Shah that Nehru had committed two major blunders in the erstwhile state -- declaring a ceasefire without winning the entire Kashmir (during the India-Pakistan war in 1948) and taking the dispute with Pakistan to the United Nations, as per ANI reports.

"The word that was used here -- Nehruvian blunder -- is supported. Because of the blunder that was committed during the time of Nehru, Kashmir had to suffer. With responsibility, it was stated that the two blunders that happened during the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru forced Kashmir to suffer for years. The first is the declaration of a ceasefire - when our army was winning, the ceasefire was imposed. If there had been a ceasefire after three days, PoK would have been a part of India today...The second is the taking of our internal issue to the UN," it was stated by Shah. Amit Shah will visit Karnataka today. The Sakti Kendra Pramukh Sammelan at Palace Ground in Bengaluru will be addressed by him.
