Amid Heatwave, Schools In Jharkhand and Patna To Remain Shut
Amid concerns over extreme heatwave conditions in several parts of India, state governments have shut schools while some have changed timings after temperature went up more than 40 degree Celsius.
Jharkhand government has taken the decision to temporarily close all schools for a period of three days from today, June 12.

"Due to the extreme temperatures and heatwave conditions, all types of schools, including government, non-government aided/non-aided (including minority), and private schools operating in the state, will remain closed from June 12 to June 14," secretary of the school education and literacy department, K Ravi Kumar, issued an official order on Sunday.
In light of the heatwave predictions, the Patna administration on Monday announced the decision to close all government schools from June 12 to June 18.
"All academic activities from June 12 to June 18 up to Class 12, due to the extreme heat wave in Bihar," said Chandra Shekar Singh, Patna District Magistrate.
"Heatwave conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next four days, and over south Haryana-Delhi, south Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha from till June 13, according to IMD.
Heatwave conditions are also likely over Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana today.
Hot and humid conditions are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during the next two days.
IMD rain forecast
Northeast India: In its latest bulletin, IMD said, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over the region during the next four days.
East India: Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 36 hours and heavy to very heavy rainfall during the subsequent 3 days, according to IMD.
Heavy rainfall is also very likely at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next three days.
Northwest India: Hailstorms are very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the three to four days. Severe thunderstorms with squalls are very likely over isolated parts of Rajasthan on June 15.
West India: Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Konkan and Goa today and over Gujarat Region on June 15.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also very likely at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch on June 14 and extremely heavy rainfall on June 15.
South India: Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Kerala during the next 36 hours and over Coastal Karnataka today.
