Textile Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday vehemently attacked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for ignoring his own constituency and raising the fingers on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government in the centre.

Irani, who is on a two-day tour in Amethi said that due to its 'VIP constituency' status everyone thinks that the area would have seen a huge surge in development over the decades, which was not the case.

The minister along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP President Amit Shah launched various developmental programmes.

The minister said that the area lacked basic amenities and struggled to meet pace with India in terms of basic needs.

In an interview to DD News, she spoke on the relevance on the mega-development push in Amethi and said, "if you look at the 21 projects that are being dedicated to the people of Amethi, that itself tells you the story of Amethi."

"There is a primary health centre that is coming up now, which is a shocker, since people presume it as a VIP constituency. For Amethi to not have a primary health facility is quite a dampener for many a people," she added.

"The MP from Amethi refuses to promote the Pradhan Mantri Yojana because it was launched by Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) but this scheme is much appreciated by the people," she said.

Irani who lost Amethi's Lok Sabha constituency to Rahul Gandhi in 2014, claimed that the development in Amethi began only after BJP government came in Centre.

She also brought the issue of people in Pipri village, and said that the former government was deaf to their problem of parts of land submerging in the river, and added that Gandhi never raised the issue in the parliament.

"Those who are making speeches about development across the whole country cannot develop their own Lok Sabha constituency," Irani said.

Irani added that the people leaned of the truth about Amethi in 2014 and before that it was a "black hole of Indian democracy". "When 2014 elections brought to the fore, the genuine problems people face here, the bijali-sadak-paani came up, that itself tells whole country," she said.

"For too long they took it for granted Amethi being the bastion for Rahul Gandhi of the Gandhi family. Since people have been armed about this situation, now you see everybody, question Rahul Gandhi," she said.

"When you talk about development, please tell us about what you have done in your constituency," she asked.

Responding to Congress claim on renaming Congress schemes, the union minister said that the BJP was, for the first time trying to dedicate a primary health center. "I don't think a health center existed before. So, I don't know why the basic needs of Amethi were not looked after," she said.

"Rahul loves to cut ribbons, you see supposedly done projects and people come and ask me "Didi yeh board lag gaya hai, yeh kaam kaha hai " and then when you go back and see no such work done in that particular area," she mocked the Congress.

Irani continued her attack, and mocked the Gandhi scion over his objection on the FM station in Amethi.

"He had cut the ribbon of relay transmitter and now questions why we are making FM station in Amethi. A person who doesn't know the difference between relay transmitter and FM station, he is giving knowledge about development. How much it suits him should be a concern for Congress party," Irani said.
