Earlier, when Rayudu joined hands with the state ruling party, TSR Congress welcomed him stating, "Famous Indian cricketer Ambati Tirupati Rayudu joined the YSR Congress Party in the presence of Chief Minister Shri YS Jagan at the CM Camp office. Deputy CM Narayana Swamy and MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy participated in this program."

Ambati Rayudu, who represented India in all three formats and was an important member of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), had announced his plans to enter politics after taking retirement from cricket. The cricketer had announced retirement after he was overlooked for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 that happened in England.

"I shall soon enter politics in Andhra Pradesh to serve the people. Before that, I have decided to visit different parts of the district to know the people's pulse and understand their problems," he said last year during his visit to Mutluru village.

This is surely going to be a big blow to Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress as the party royally welcomed the cricketer in the presence of its top brass.

There were also some rumors suggesting that Rayudu might contest upcoming general elections from Andhra Pradesh's Guntur or Machilipatnam parliamentary seat. However, Rayude rubbished all such reports.
