Anant-Radhika Wedding: What's In Nita Ambani's Hand That Has Fans Going Gaga?

India's wealthiest individual, Mukesh Ambani, and his wife Nita are celebrating their youngest son Anant Ambani's marriage to Radhika Merchant. As the wedding festivities unfold, Nita Ambani is seen holding a picture of a Hindu deity. This Gujarati wedding tradition is significant and deeply rooted in cultural beliefs.

At the wedding, Nita Ambani holds a 'Raman divo,' which includes an image or idol of Ganesh ji and an oil lamp. According to Gujarati customs, the groom's mother carries this 'Raman divo' as it is believed to bring good fortune and protect against the evil eye. Typically made of brass, Nita Ambani's golden 'Raman divo' stands out due to its rarity and opulence.

Gujarati Wedding Traditions

This isn't the first time Nita Ambani has followed this tradition. She was also seen carrying the 'Raman divo' at her elder son Akash's wedding. The practice underscores the importance of cultural rituals in Gujarati weddings, symbolising blessings and protection for the couple.

Another notable tradition involves Isha Ambani Piramal, Anant's sister, who will likely hold the 'Lun' bell during the ceremony. At Akash Ambani's wedding, Isha carried this bell, which consists of a small katori or kalash filled with coins and covered with cloth. The sister rings this bell to keep the groom awake during night-time weddings and to ward off evil spirits.

Anant-Radhika's Love Story

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have known each other for about six years. Their journey began with a traditional 'roka' ceremony at Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara on December 30, 2022. This was followed by their formal engagement at Antilia in Mumbai in 2023.

The couple’s pre-wedding celebrations included two grand parties hosted by the Ambanis earlier in 2024—one in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and another on a cruise in Europe. These festivities set the stage for their wedding on July 12.

Nita Ambani’s attire for Anant and Radhika’s wedding pays homage to Kashi while embracing Indian culture. Her choice reflects a blend of tradition and elegance, fitting for such a significant occasion.
