Alumni celebrate 50 years of Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram, vow to give back
Alumni of Kendriya Vidyalaya have recently formed an association to give back to their alma mater.
A school in Malleswaram was abuzz with activity on Saturday. People from every walk of life had gathered inside a school. Some were IAS officers, others doctors, entrepreneurs, army men, teachers even but one thing that brought them together was Kendriya Vidyalaya. Alumni came together to celebrate 50 years of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram in Bengaluru.

Recalling bitter sweet memories, sharing a childhood joke, reliving their life in the school, former teachers, alumni, current faculty and students celebrated golden jubilee celebrations of Kendriya Vidyalaya.
"I was a teacher in KV for 23 years. I am very happy to see my colleagues, the children who are all grown up today and have become such successful people. It is a homely place and we have a personal connection. I haven't seen any other school at all and so there is no comparison," said Leelavathi, a 75-year-old former teacher.
Alumni of the school organised the celebrations and flew in from various parts of the world to take part. "I am in the Navy am currently posted in Mumbai. I flew down to meet my friends, talk to my teachers. I was in the '87 batch. Ours was a small batch and we keep in touch to this day. We share a bond with the school and that brings us back," said Capt Rajneesh Sharma.
Alumni spoke about how nostalgic it was to be at the alumni meet.
Alumni wished for more students of the school to achieve more and become successful. "I could never bunk because the teachers always knew how to find us. I tried bunking one day to miss my report card but my teacher postponed the distribution to ensure that I was in class when the report card was being given," he recalled with a smile.
"There was one room where students were restricted simply because it had no flooring. It was dust and mud. One day the door was left open and we all ended up playing with the mud. We were taken to the principal's room and were asked to stand the entire day as punishment. From then on, I never once broke a rule," laughed IAS officer Ajay Seth, Additional Chief Secretary, Education department, Karnataka government.
The alumni association has decided to contribute to the welfare of the school via a trust. "The school needs furniture, books etc. Alumni make donations and we use the money to give back to the school in small ways, said Koushik Chakraborty, a member of the alumni association.
The young and old, teachers and students, alumni and current students came together to relive the best times spent at a school whose history dates back to 50 years. Alumni vowed to do everything they can to give back to their alma mater as part of the day-long event.
