Jharkhand Floor Test: CM Champai Soren-Led JMM Govt 'Confident' As Trust Vote Begins

Jharkhand's new Chief Minister, Champai Soren, stands before the Assembly today at 11 AM to prove his majority in a crucial floor test. He assumed office following the resignation of his predecessor, Hemant Soren, who stepped down before being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last week.

The ruling JMM-led alliance, which had secured its MLAs in a Hyderabad resort to thwart any poaching attempts, brought them back to Ranchi on Sunday evening.

While the JMM asserts that the floor test is a mere formality, citing the support of 47 MLAs, the BJP argues that the coalition's decision to seclude its MLAs reflects a lack of confidence.

• According to JMM's Manoj Pandey, the floor test is a mere "formality," stating, "The spirit of the opposition is already low seeing the numbers and the unity of the INDIA alliance. The figure can also cross 48. Our party, our alliance is united." JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya affirmed that the Champai Soren government has the backing of no fewer than 47 MLAs.
• BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo expressed that regardless of the floor test's outcome, "Jharkhand has lost." He criticized the circumstances surrounding Hemant Soren's arrest, highlighting the state's humiliation on a national and international scale.
