Ajit Doval to Meet Wang Yi in Beijing for Special Representatives Dialogue on Boundary Issues
Ajit Doval, India's National Security Advisor, and Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, are set to engage in the Special Representatives dialogue on the boundary issue in Beijing. This meeting marks a renewal of discussions after nearly five years, as confirmed by Chinese ambassador Xu Feihong. The last dialogue occurred in New Delhi in December 2019.

The decision to restart this dialogue was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on October 23 in Kazan. The upcoming session is scheduled for December 18, as announced by Xu on X. However, there has been no official statement from India regarding this dialogue.
India-China Boundary Dialogue Resumes
The Special Representatives dialogue will be the 23rd meeting focused on the China-India boundary question. This renewed engagement follows diplomatic talks held on December 5, where both nations prepared for the upcoming discussions. Ajit Doval represents India, while Wang Yi leads the Chinese delegation.
The absence of this dialogue over the past five years was largely due to tensions along the eastern Ladakh border. A military standoff began in May 2020 along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), culminating in a deadly clash at Galwan Valley in June that year, severely straining bilateral relations.
Resolution of Border Tensions
The face-off concluded with an agreement on October 21 to disengage from two friction points: Demchok and Depsang. This resolution paved the way for Modi and Xi to discuss reviving various dialogue mechanisms during their meeting at the BRICS Summit in Kazan.
Despite these developments, there has been no comment from Indian officials about the upcoming Special Representatives dialogue. The focus remains on addressing longstanding boundary issues and improving diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The revival of this dialogue signifies a step towards resolving boundary disputes and enhancing cooperation between India and China. Both nations aim to address key concerns through these discussions, fostering a more stable relationship moving forward.
