Ajey: The Biopic of Yogi Adityanath Hits Theatres Across India

Ajey, a biopic on Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, has released in over 500 screens nationwide. Directed by Ravindra Gautam, it showcases his life and has received enthusiastic audience reactions.

The film "Ajey: The Untold Story Of a Yogi," depicting the life of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, premiered on Friday. It was shown on over 500 screens in India and 150 globally. Initially delayed by the Central Board of Film Certification, its release was enabled by a Bombay High Court decision on August 25. The film's producer, Ajay Mengi, expressed satisfaction with the positive reception.

Directed by Ravindra Gautam, known for "Maharani" season two, the film is based on Shantanu Gupta's book "The Monk Who Became Chief Minister." In Uttar Pradesh, it is screened on about 150 screens. Reports from Lucknow and Varanasi indicate enthusiastic audience reactions, with chants of "Yogi Yogi" and "Jai Shri Ram" during screenings.

Film's Research and Production

Director Gautam believes the film will succeed commercially due to its strong connection with audiences. Extensive research was conducted, including watching videos of Adityanath and visiting his ancestral home in Uttarakhand. The crew also spent time in Gorakhpur, where Adityanath serves as the head priest of the Gorakhnath Mutt.

Anant Joshi, portraying Yogi Adityanath, undertook significant research for his role. He aimed to understand how Yogi ji reacts in various situations. Gautam noted that Joshi immersed himself in the character to deliver an authentic performance.

Audience Reception and Cast

Producer Ajay Mengi shared his excitement about the feedback received both domestically and internationally. He stated, "The feedback is heartening. And that's very satisfying because we put our heart behind this movie." Mengi emphasized that commercial success was secondary to the heartfelt response from viewers.

Mengi explained his motivation for producing the film wasn't financial gain but rather to demonstrate that passionate storytelling can leave a lasting impact. "I came all the way here not to make money. I came here to make a point -- that honest movies, told from the heart with passion do go on to leave a mark," he said.

The film features Bhojpuri star Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua, a former BJP MP, alongside veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Pavan Malhotra. Their performances contribute significantly to bringing this story to life on screen.

The film's journey to release faced challenges but ultimately reached audiences successfully. It highlights an extraordinary individual's journey against odds, resonating with viewers across India and beyond.
