Airlines Celebrate Durga Puja with Special Bengali Meals and Sari-Inspired Tail Designs
Airlines are embracing the spirit of Durga Puja in West Bengal with unique initiatives. They have introduced tail art inspired by traditional "Jamdani" and "Kantha" sari designs. Additionally, passengers can enjoy a special menu during this festive period. Air India Express unveiled its new Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, featuring a tail art inspired by the "Jamdani" design.

Traditional Designs on Aircraft Tails
The Jamdani pattern is a celebrated handloom creation from Bengal, known for its intricate floral, vine, leaf, and geometric motifs. It holds cultural significance in Bengali weddings, festivals, and celebrations. To mark this occasion, Air India Express staff dressed in traditional Jamdani attire welcomed the aircraft, registered as VT-BXG, to Kolkata. This aircraft serves the Kolkata–Jaipur route.
Another aircraft in the fleet, registered as VT-BXU, showcases a vibrant Kantha design on its tail. Kantha originated in Bengal as a method of repurposing old saris and clothes into quilts and blankets. The designs often depict everyday life, folk tales, and nature, highlighting the craftsmanship of local artisans.
Special Festive Menu on Akasa Air
Meanwhile, Akasa Air's onboard meal service, Café Akasa, has introduced its third edition of a Dussehra special meal. This menu celebrates the festival's spirit with flavours that resonate with the season. The meal includes ‘Hinger Dal Kochuri’, a spicy lentil dish served with ‘Kaju Fulkopi’, a cauliflower preparation. For dessert, passengers can enjoy Baked Rasgulla along with a beverage of choice.
This special menu will be available throughout October across the Akasa Air network. Passengers can conveniently pre-book it on Akasa Air’s website or mobile app. These initiatives by airlines aim to enhance the festive experience for passengers during Durga Puja celebrations.
These efforts by airlines highlight their commitment to celebrating regional culture and traditions. By incorporating traditional designs and festive menus, they offer passengers a unique travel experience during this significant festival in West Bengal.
