Air India Pilot Collapses Before Bengaluru-Delhi Flight, Sparks Panic at Airport
An Air India flight scheduled to depart from Bengaluru to Delhi in the early hours of July 4 was delayed after the pilot collapsed just before takeoff and was immediately taken to the hospital, according to sources quoted by PTI. The pilot collapsed just before take-off and was immediately taken to a hospital, causing the flight to be postponed until another pilot could be arranged.
According to an Air India spokesperson, the pilot assigned to flight AI2414 experienced a medical emergency, preventing him from operating the scheduled flight. The airline quickly arranged for another pilot, allowing the flight to eventually depart after some delay.

Medical Emergency and Immediate Response
The spokesperson stated, "There was a medical emergency involving one of our pilots in the early hours of 04 July. As a result, the pilot was unable to operate the flight AI2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi, that he was rostered for, and was taken to a local hospital immediately."
The airline confirmed that the affected pilot is stable but remains under medical supervision. They emphasised their commitment to supporting both the pilot and his family during this time to ensure his swift recovery.
Previous Incident Involving Air India Express
In a related incident on April 9, an Air India Express first officer tragically passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly after landing in Delhi. The 36-year-old pilot collapsed minutes after landing and later died in hospital.
This earlier incident prompted India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), to initiate a detailed investigation. The DGCA's directive also called for a review of existing guidelines and circulars related to such emergencies.
Regulatory Investigation and Review
The DGCA's director general Faiz Ahmed Kidwai issued an order on April 17 for investigators to examine current protocols and suggest necessary changes. This move aims at improving response measures for similar situations in the future.
Air India has expressed its focus on ensuring safety and providing necessary support during such emergencies. The airline continues its efforts towards maintaining high standards of care for its crew members.
