AIMIM Advocates for Raising Backward Classes Quota to 50% in Telangana
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has called on the Telangana Backward Classes (BC) Commission to propose an increase in reservations for backward classes to 50%. This includes a 38% quota for A, B, C, and D groups within BCs and 12% for backward Muslims. AIMIM suggests that the 38% quota should be distributed among these groups based on their population proportion.

A delegation from AIMIM, led by MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, presented a memorandum to Commission Chairman G Niranjan. The party urged the commission to address pending requests for adding more castes to the BC list and reassigning castes between groups. AIMIM also requested the identification of additional Most Backward Classes (MBCs) within the A, B, C, and D categories.
Proposals for Enhanced Representation
The party proposed that the commission recommend establishing a separate MBC Ministry to the state government. Additionally, AIMIM suggested steps for enacting the Jyotiba Phule BC Sub-Plan with an annual allocation of Rs 20,000 crore. These measures aim to enhance representation and support for backward classes in Telangana.
Currently, Muslims have a 4% reservation in education and employment under a separate category called BC-E within the BC pool in Telangana. The AIMIM's proposals seek to address broader issues of representation and resource allocation for backward communities across the state.
The party's recommendations reflect ongoing efforts to ensure equitable distribution of resources and opportunities among various backward class groups. By advocating for these changes, AIMIM aims to improve socio-economic conditions for these communities in Telangana.
