Ahmedabad: Gay man alleges sexual assault by police

Ahmedabad, Feb 10: The agitation over the Supreme Court's verdict in favour of Article 377 has not yet died down when incidents of rape on homosexuals emerges.

In a case in Ahmedabad, a man was raped by two policemen after they came to know that he participated in the Gay parade in December. The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday when the man was returning home from a friend's place.

His car was stopped by the two policemen who asked for his identification and the papers for his car. While going through the papers, the policemen figured that he was gay. Following this, they beat him up mercilessly and then assaulted him sexually.

The 23-year old is reported to have suffered severe injuries in the leg, but refused to file any complaints as he fears he and his family would run into more trouble.

"If I go to the police, nothing will come out, things will only fall apart. It will only mean more trouble for me and my mother. I don't want to pursue the case," he said. He also said that gay men were regularly harassed by the policemen in Ahmedabad.
