Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash: EAM S Jaishankar Engages with UK, Canadian, and Portuguese Officials
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated he was in contact with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, as well as his Canadian and Portuguese counterparts, following the Air India crash in Ahmedabad. The flight, which crashed on Thursday, carried 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.

Air India confirmed that 241 passengers perished in the crash. One person survived and is receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the incident. The crash occurred when the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner struck a medical college complex shortly after takeoff.
International Response to Tragic Crash
Jaishankar expressed condolences and offered support to his counterparts from the UK, Portugal, and Canada. "In touch with FS @DavidLammy of UK, FM @PauloRangel_pt of Portugal and FM @AnitaAnandMP of Canada regarding the Ahmedabad plane crash. Expressed our profound condolences and offered fullest support in this hour of grief," Jaishankar posted on X.
The crash resulted in at least 265 fatalities, marking it as one of India's worst air disasters in recent history. Tragically, several individuals on the ground were also among the deceased.
Minister's Official Visit Amid Crisis
At the time of the accident, Jaishankar was on an official visit to Europe. Despite being abroad, he promptly coordinated with international officials to address the aftermath of the tragedy.
The incident has drawn significant international attention due to the diverse nationalities involved. Efforts are underway to provide assistance to affected families and ensure a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
