Ahead Of Special Session, New Parliament Building To See First Flag Hoisting On Vishwakarma Puja

A day prior to the special parliamentary session, a ceremonial flag hoisting is scheduled for September 17 at the new Parliament building, coinciding with Vishwakarma Puja and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

The upcoming special session, slated for September 18 to 22, will begin in the old Parliament building before transitioning to the recently inaugurated New Parliament building. This marks the first session to be held in the new facility, officially unveiled by the Prime Minister on May 28.

The flag hoisting will take place at the Gaj Dwar, one of the three ceremonial entrances of the new building.

According to a report by the Indian Express, on Tuesday, the Central Public Works Department, responsible for the construction, has initiated arrangements for a 'national flag-raising event,' including issuing a tender for a public address system.

Rajya Sabha Chairman and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will conduct the flag hoisting, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend.

As the session approaches, senior officials from the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the CPWD conducted final inspections to ensure optimal audio levels and test multimedia systems for Members of Parliament. An additional control room is being established to address unforeseen issues, and cafes and kitchens within the new building are expected to be operational during the session.

The New Parliament Building, designed by HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd, incorporates Indian cultural and architectural elements, state-of-the-art facilities, and green building practices for an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient design.
