After Sukma attack, centre puts new anti-Naxal policy in place
It has also been found that in most operations, the local police do not accompany the CRPF team. They always end up playing a secondary role and never have any intelligence.
A new policy to fight Naxals will be in place soon. A key ingredient of the new policy would be to involve the local police more in anti-Naxal operations. Following the attack at Sukma, Chhattisgarh in which 25 CRPF jawans were killed, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had expressed concern and also said that the sacrifice of the jawans will not go in vain.

The role of the local police is very crucial. Currently, in anti-Naxal operations, the local police depend entirely on the CRPF. This is never helpful a senior Home ministry official said. The CRPF jawans who come in from different parts of the country are not familiar with the logistics and also the local language.
The villagers who can provide key intelligence do not identify with the jawans from other parts of the country. Hence the role of the local police becomes very important considering that he is familiar with the terrain and also the language.
It has also been found that in most operations, the local police do not accompany the CRPF team. They always end up playing a secondary role and never have any intelligence. The local police must be sent more to the villages to interact with locals so that they can gather key intelligence and share with it with the CRPF.
The new anti-Naxal policy will define the role of the local police better. The CRPF should be the assault team while the local police should take the lead in gathering and sharing intelligence. The local police also should be part of every operation that is carried out by the Naxals, the new policy would state.
