After RBI's Big Order, Zomato Reveals 72% of Cash On Delivery Bills Paid In Rs 2,000 Notes
Zomato, the popular food delivery app in India, has revealed that 72 per cent of their cash on delivery orders since Friday have been paid using Rs 2,000 notes.
This disclosure is particularly surprising considering the recent announcement by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to withdraw the Rs 2,000 denomination from circulation.

The company posted a comical picture featuring a man resting on a bed made of Rs 2000 notes while wearing a shirt with Zomato's logo.
On Monday, Zomato tweeted, "since friday, 72% of our cash on delivery orders were paid in Rs 2000 notes".
Following the RBI's announcement, there has been a rush among people to get rid of their Rs 2,000 notes as quickly as possible. Long queues have formed at petrol pumps across the country as individuals attempt to offload these high-value notes. Some posts have even claimed that petrol pumps have put up notices discouraging or prohibiting the use of Rs 2,000 notes for payment.
The RBI has instructed banks to provide facilities for depositing and exchanging Rs 2,000 notes until September 30, 2023. Starting from May 23, 2023, individuals can exchange Rs 2,000 banknotes into other denominations up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at any bank. The RBI has also advised banks to stop issuing ₹2,000 denomination banknotes immediately, although the existing Rs 2,000 notes will remain legal tender.
In a playful tweet, Zomato took a lighthearted jab at the RBI's announcement, highlighting that while kids were exchanging Rs 2,000 at the bank, adults were choosing cash on delivery and paying with Rs 2,000 notes. The tweet humorously concluded by stating that legends never even had Rs 2,000 notes.
