After Kolkata, Mumbai Museums Receive Bomb Threat

On Friday morning, museums situated in Mumbai received threatening emails regarding potential bomb blasts, reported news agency ANI. Reacting to a threatening email, the museum authorities informed police, after which, the Mumbai police registered a case against unidentified individual responsible for sending threat emails.

An official said, the threatening emails were directed at prominent museums such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Colaba and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli. The museum's management received an email during the early hours of Friday, prompting them to notify the police.

"The email said bombs had been planted at more than eight locations in Mumbai, including the museum, the science centre, and the Byculla Zoo. Separate emails were also sent to these institutions," an official told ANI.

As a result, security measures at critical sites in the city were heightened. Teams, including bomb detection and disposal squads, alongside personnel from anti-terror units, conducted thorough inspections at the museum. However, no suspicious items were discovered during the checks.

Following the complaint lodged by the museum management, Mumbai Police registered a case under sections 505 (1) (b), 506 (2), and 182 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown individuals at the Colaba police station and the investigation is underway.

A day ago, the authorities of Kolkata's renowned Indian Museum also received an email asserting the presence of planted bombs within the museum premises.

"The threat mail stated that several bombs were planted inside the Indian Museum, and those would explode any moment," a police officer said.

Aside from the bomb squad, sniffer dogs, and a rapid response team (QRT), a substantial police presence has been stationed in and around the central Kolkata building, according to the official. Additionally, the police cyber section has initiated an investigation to track the origin of the email, the officer confirmed.
