Advocate Ramen Roy Critically Injured in Bangladesh After Defending Hindu Monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu
ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das has reported a violent attack on Advocate Ramen Roy in Bangladesh. Roy, who defended Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case, was severely injured and is now in the ICU. Das stated that Roy's home was ransacked by Islamists, and he is fighting for his life due to his legal defence of Prabhu.

Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, associated with Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He was on his way to Chattogram for a rally. The court denied him bail and sent him to jail the following day. This incident highlights the challenges faced by those defending religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Advocate's Attack Raises Concerns
Das expressed concern over the attack on Roy, linking it directly to his role in defending Prabhu. "This brutal attack on advocate Roy is a direct consequence of his legal defence of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu. It reflects the growing danger faced by those who defend the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh," he told a Bengali news channel.
The Hindu population in Bangladesh has seen a drastic reduction from 22% during the 1971 Liberation War to about 8% today. This decline is attributed to socio-political marginalisation, exodus, and sporadic violence over the years. The situation for Hindus in Bangladesh remains precarious amid ongoing tensions.
Social Media Appeal
Das shared a post on X, urging prayers for Roy's recovery. "Please pray for Advocate Ramen Roy. His only fault was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists ransacked his home and brutally attacked him, leaving him in the ICU, fighting for his life. #SaveBangladeshiHindus #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu," he posted along with an image of Roy in the ICU.
The authenticity of this social media post could not be independently verified. However, it underscores the serious risks faced by those advocating for minority rights in Bangladesh. The attack on Roy has sparked outrage and concern among supporters of religious freedom.
The plight of Hindus in Bangladesh continues to draw attention as incidents like these highlight their vulnerability. The international community remains watchful as tensions persist, impacting the lives of many within this minority group.
