Andhra Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan Urges West Bengal Police to Act Justly in Sharmishta Panoli Case

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has urged the West Bengal Police to ensure fairness in handling the case of Sharmishta Panoli. She is a social media influencer arrested in Gurugram, Haryana, for allegedly posting a communal video. Kalyan emphasised that while blasphemy should be condemned, secularism must not be misused.

Kalyan Appeals for Justice in Panoli Case

Kalyan expressed his views on X, stating, "Blasphemy must be condemned, always! Secularism isn’t a shield for some and a sword for others. It must be a two-way street. West Bengal Police, the nation is watching. Act justly for all." He highlighted the need for justice to be impartial and consistent.

Secularism and Justice

The deputy chief minister pointed out that Sharmishta, a law student, had made regrettable remarks concerning Operation Sindoor. According to Kalyan, she acknowledged her mistake by deleting the video and apologising. Despite this, the West Bengal Police took swift action against her.

Kalyan questioned the lack of response when elected leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) allegedly mocked Sanatana Dharma. He asked why there was no outrage or apology when their faith was insulted as Gandha Dharm. The Janasena Party founder, allied with the BJP, demanded accountability from those in power.

Call for Accountability

The actor-politician criticised the absence of swift arrests or apologies from leaders who offend religious sentiments. He stressed that justice should not be selective and called for equal treatment under the law. Kalyan's comments reflect broader concerns about how secularism and justice are applied in India.

In his appeal, Kalyan highlighted the pain caused to millions when religious beliefs are disrespected by public figures. He urged authorities to address such issues with urgency and fairness, ensuring that all communities receive equal protection and respect.

Kalyan's statements have sparked discussions on social media about the role of secularism in Indian society. His call for balanced justice resonates with many who feel that religious sentiments are often mishandled by those in power.
