TMC Delegation Led by Abhishek Banerjee to Meet Governor in Darjeeling
In a significant political development, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee has announced that a delegation from the party will meet Governor CV Ananda Bose in Darjeeling on Saturday. This comes as a response to the governor's call amidst an ongoing indefinite sit-in protest outside his official residence, Raj Bhavan, in Kolkata.
Meeting Amidst Protests

The TMC-led protest is demanding the release of West Bengal's Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) dues by the Central government and seeking an audience with Governor Bose. Despite this planned meeting with the governor, Banerjee made it clear that their demonstration would continue until they have been granted an audience with Bose at Raj Bhavan.
Governor Agrees to Meet TMC Delegation
Sources within Raj Bhavan confirmed that Governor Bose has agreed to meet with the TMC delegation at 5:30 pm on Saturday in Darjeeling’s Gubernatorial Mansion. The decision came after receiving a mail from TMC leader Derek O’Brien requesting for such a meeting.
"With reference to your mail of October 6, I am directed to inform you that the Governor would be pleased to meet you and other members of the delegation at 05.30 pm at Raj Bhavan, Darjeeling, on October 7," read part of a letter sent by Deputy Secretary of Raj Bhavan responding positively to O'Brien's request. Further details regarding who exactly will comprise this delegation are yet awaited as O'Brien was asked specifically "to kindly send a list along with names."
Ongoing Political Turmoil
This upcoming meeting between representatives from TMC and Governor CV Ananda Bose occurs amidst rising political tensions within West Bengal. The state has witnessed a series of protests led by the TMC, demanding the Centre's attention towards pending MGNREGA dues. The party alleges that these funds are critical for ensuring rural employment and development but have been unjustly withheld.
In conclusion, this meeting signifies a crucial juncture in West Bengal's political scenario. While it remains to be seen how Governor Bose will respond to TMC's demands, it is evident that the ongoing sit-in protest outside Raj Bhavan has managed to draw significant attention from various quarters. Whether this dialogue will lead to a resolution of issues at hand or further intensify the political standoff is something that only time can tell.
