AAP Student Wing Workers Detained for Protesting During IPL Match

Delhi Police detained several members of the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) student wing during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. The incident occurred amidst the clash between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, drawing attention not just to the game but also to a political protest unfolding within the stands.

AAP Protest at IPL Leads to Detention

The detained individuals were part of the AAP's student wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), and were caught raising slogans while donning T-shirts emblazoned with "Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se". This slogan forms the crux of AAP's campaign rallying against the incarceration of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently facing charges in a money laundering case. The protest comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections for the seven constituencies in Delhi, scheduled for May 25.

A senior police officer elaborated on the situation, stating, "Our staff are deployed at various points in the stadium. We have detained some persons for creating public nuisance in one of the stands. They are being bound down accordingly and will be released after legal formalities." He further urged spectators to enjoy the game responsibly and refrain from engaging in disruptive activities.

The AAP has vocally criticized what it deems the illegal arrest of Kejriwal, using this high-visibility event as a platform to protest against the BJP government. Following the incident, AAP took to its official X account to share a video of the sloganeering, amplifying their message beyond the confines of the stadium.

This act of protest by CYSS members at a popular sporting event highlights the intertwining of politics with other spheres of public life in India. It also underscores the ongoing tensions between AAP and the current government, especially in the context of the upcoming elections. As Delhi gears up for its Lok Sabha elections, such incidents spotlight the charged political atmosphere and the various strategies employed by parties to garner support.
