AAP Voices Concerns Over Bomb Threats to Schools in Delhi, Criticises Centre's Safety Measures

On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed alarm over bomb threats targeting several schools in Delhi. They criticised the BJP-led central government for not ensuring the safety of the capital's residents. The BJP responded by accusing AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, of inadvertently encouraging hoax callers by focusing too much on the issue.

AAP Criticises Centre Over School Bomb Threats

Approximately 40 notable schools in Delhi received bomb threats, according to a police official. Most of these schools halted classes and sent students home as a precaution. Kejriwal stated at a press conference, "The law and order situation in Delhi is getting worse every day. Now our children are not safe as bomb threats are received in many schools and this is not the first time."

Security Concerns and Political Reactions

Kejriwal highlighted that there had been an explosion outside a CRPF school in Rohini, indicating that these threats are not just empty warnings. He questioned the Union Home Minister's actions regarding this deteriorating situation and urged him to reassure Delhi's citizens about their safety. Earlier, Kejriwal posted on X, criticising the poor law and order in Delhi and demanding answers from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chief Minister Atishi echoed these concerns, accusing the Centre of failing its primary duty to protect Delhi's residents. She noted that alongside routine crimes like extortion and shootings, schools were now facing bomb threats. "Delhi never had such pathetic law and order," she stated on X.

BJP's Response to AAP's Allegations

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticised Shah, urging him to address these issues. This incident marks the second time this year that numerous Delhi schools have received bomb threats. In response to AAP's accusations, BJP's Delhi spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor lamented that Kejriwal was giving undue attention to hoax callers.

Kapoor mentioned a previous incident in August where a 14-year-old student sent threat emails to avoid attending school. He questioned Kejriwal's approach to dealing with such individuals who lack criminal backgrounds. Kapoor suggested that Kejriwal should handle such matters more maturely.

Previous Incidents and Ongoing Political Tensions

In May, over 200 schools, hospitals, and key government sites received similar threats. However, the case remains unresolved as the sender used a VPN to send hoax emails. With Delhi Assembly elections approaching in February, tensions between AAP and BJP are escalating over the city's security issues.

AAP aims for a third consecutive term in office, while BJP seeks to govern Delhi for the first time since 1998. The ongoing debate over law and order is likely to be a significant issue in the upcoming elections.
