Kejriwal-led AAP Announces Second Candidate List for Upcoming Chhattisgarh Polls
The Aam Aadmi Party has announced its second list of 12 candidates for the forthcoming assembly elections in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh. The party had previously fielded candidates in 85 seats during the 2018 elections but failed to win any.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has announced its second list of 12 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. This announcement was made on Monday and includes prominent AAP members such as Jasbir Singh, the party's state unit treasurer, and Raipur corporator Tarun Vaidh. The information was disseminated through a post on social media platform X.
Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections: AAP’s Strategy

The release of this second candidate list brings the total number of AAP nominees to 22 for the impending election in Chhattisgarh. The state is currently governed by Congress and boasts a 90-member assembly. Elections are expected to take place before the end of this year.
AAP expressed optimism about their prospects in an announcement posted on social media platform X that said, "Major Announcement! Our second list of candidates for the Chhattisgarh assembly elections is out. All the best to all candidates. Is baar chalegi Jhadu (this time broom will sweep). #ChhattisgarhMangeKejriwal". It should be noted that "Jhadu" or broom is the electoral symbol of AAP and represents their commitment towards eradicating corruption from politics.
Reserved Seats for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Nominees
Of these newly announced 12 seats, four are reserved specifically for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates while two have been allocated for Scheduled Caste (SC) nominees. These reservations align with India's constitutional provisions aimed at ensuring political representation for historically marginalized communities.
AAP’s Previous Performance in Chhattisgarh
This isn't AAP's maiden venture into Chhattisgarh's political arena. The party had previously contested the 2018 assembly elections, fielding candidates in 85 of the total 90 seats. However, they were unable to secure a single seat during that election cycle. Despite this setback, AAP appears undeterred and is once again attempting to make its mark in Chhattisgarh politics.
Last month, AAP announced its first list of ten candidates for the upcoming elections. Jasbir Singh and Tarun Vaidh have been chosen as the party’s representatives for Bilha and Raipur Gramin seats respectively, according to Anupam.
In conclusion, with these announcements, AAP has signalled its readiness for the forthcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections. While their previous performance was underwhelming, they are hopeful about making significant gains this time around. Whether their optimism will translate into electoral success remains to be seen as Chhattisgarh gears up for what promises to be a closely contested election.
