AAP Lok Sabha Campaign Song Violates MCC: Election Commission; Atishi Asks About Action Against BJP

Delhi minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Sunday told the media that the Election Commission has directed the Delhi-ruling party to modify its campaign song as it violates poll body's advertising guidelines. According to the reports, the action was taken after the BJP filed a complaint against AAP as the song takes a jibe at central investigation agencies and the Prime Minister, which is a constitutional post.

Addressing the media, Atishi said in the history of India elections, it is the first time that the poll body has imposed a ban on a party's campaign song. She clarified that the song carries real incidents and factual evident videos, underlining that it does not violate the model code of conduct.

She also alleged the Election Commission of being biased as it doesn't take action against poll code violations done by the BJP.

"If the BJP does dictatorship, it is right. But if someone talks about it, that is wrong. This shows that democracy is in danger. I want to urge the EC to act on the (poll code) violations committed by the BJP and not stop campaigns of opposition parties," Atishi said.

On the other side, the Election Commission said Aam Aadmi Party's advertisement song violates the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and the Election Commission's norms.

"Therefore, the said advertisement is hereby returned with the request to modify the contents." the EC said.

The viral song was written and sung by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Dilip Pandey, which mentions the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who has been put behind bars in alleged money laundering related to now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

The seven-phase election has already completed two phases and the third phase of polling will be held on May 7. However, elections for seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will beheld in the sixth phase on May 25.
