AAP Leaders Unite at Amanatullah Khan's Home in Show of Support

In a significant development that has stirred the political landscape, Amanatullah Khan, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla, found himself in the midst of a legal turmoil as he was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday. The detention came after a marathon questioning session that lasted more than 12 hours, focusing on a money laundering case tied to alleged discrepancies during his tenure as the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. Despite the long interrogation, ED sources clarified that Khan was detained but not formally arrested.

AAP Rallies for Khan Amid ED Case

The AAP camp has vehemently contested the actions taken against Khan, labeling the case as fabricated. AAP leader Jasmine Shah took to social media to voice his protest, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting AAP leaders through what he termed as 'pet agencies'. "The arrest of AAP MLA @KhanAmanatullah in a fake case marks yet another low for the BJP and its pet agencies. How long till the country and the courts watch along? BJP wakes up every day with the dream of finishing off AAP but not a single leader has given in. Ladenge, Jeetenge!" Shah expressed.

Several prominent AAP figures, including MP Sanjay Singh, ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, rallied around Khan's family, showing their support during this challenging time. They visited Khan's residence in Okhla to meet with his family members. Atishi, among other leaders, reiterated the party's stance that the charges against Khan were baseless and part of a broader scheme to intimidate AAP members ahead of upcoming elections.

"This is an attack on AAP before Lok Sabha polls. Why was Kejriwal arrested before the polls? Why has Amanatullah Khan been arrested after a non-bailable warrant was quashed? This is a conspiracy to break the AAP by scaring its MLAs. But we won't be scared," Atishi stated, highlighting what she believes to be a pattern of political vendettas.

The backdrop to this controversy is rooted in allegations of misconduct within the Delhi Waqf Board during Khan's leadership from 2018 to 2022. The ED's investigation was prompted by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR and three complaints lodged by Delhi Police, pointing towards unauthorized recruitment within the Waqf Board and illicit financial gains through unfair property leases.

Just last week, the Supreme Court declined to entertain an anticipatory bail plea from Khan concerning these allegations, instructing him instead to cooperate with the ongoing investigation slated for April 18. This directive came amidst claims from ED that pointed towards significant irregularities under Khan's chairmanship.

The unfolding events have cast a spotlight on the AAP and its members, raising questions about governance and accountability within its ranks. As this situation develops, it underscores not only the legal challenges faced by Khan but also hints at underlying political tensions as parties gear up for future electoral battles.
