AAP Leaders Address EC's Concerns Over Lok Sabha Campaign Song
A delegation of senior leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) engaged in discussions with the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday, addressing concerns over the request to modify their campaign song for the Lok Sabha elections. The party had previously expressed that the EC had imposed a ban on their song titled "Jail Ka Jawab, Vote Se Denge," although officials from the Delhi poll body clarified that AAP was merely asked to alter the song's content due to violations of EC's guidelines and advertising norms.

The AAP delegation, comprising Delhi ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, national secretary Pankaj Gupta, and senior leader Dilip Pandey, presented their case to the EC. Bharadwaj highlighted the presence of numerous hoardings by the BJP across Delhi, which depicted AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in what they deemed an objectionable manner. He raised concerns about the lack of action from the EC regarding complaints filed by AAP a month prior.
Addressing the issue of their campaign song, Bharadwaj asserted that there was nothing objectionable in its lyrics and that a detailed response had been provided to the Commission. Atishi pointed out the delay in securing an appointment with the EC, noting that AAP had been attempting to address various issues since March 22. She criticized the EC's swift action on complaints filed by the BJP while allegedly neglecting AAP's grievances over BJP's content.
Atishi also mentioned the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate just before the elections, questioning why the EC did not scrutinize this event. She highlighted that objections were raised by the EC when AAP released a campaign song about Kejriwal's arrest.
In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed astonishment at AAP leaders' remarks about the EC. He noted that while AAP initially focused on objections to their campaign song, their narrative shifted towards grievances regarding BJP's hoardings post-meeting with the election commissioners. Sachdeva criticized AAP for not addressing concerns about their "objectionable" campaign song directly.
This meeting underscores ongoing tensions between political parties and regulatory bodies in the lead-up to elections, highlighting challenges in balancing freedom of expression with adherence to electoral guidelines.
