AAP Leaders Confront BJP with Bottles of Contaminated Water Amid Health Concerns

On Thursday, AAP leaders carrying bottles of ammonia-laced water were halted by police near the BJP headquarters. They challenged BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to drink the water. The BJP responded by accusing AAP of theatrics and questioned whether Arvind Kejriwal or Delhi residents consume raw Yamuna water.

AAP Challenges BJP with Contaminated Water

Amidst the controversy, AAP chief Kejriwal claimed that the ammonia level in the Yamuna had risen to 7 ppm, posing a health risk. During a press conference, he displayed four bottles intended for Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He dared them to drink it if they believed it was safe.

Ammonia Levels in Yamuna Water

AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh carried a bottle outside the BJP headquarters, stating that the water contained six times more ammonia than allowed. He alleged that this contaminated water was being supplied to Delhi. Singh expressed a desire to present the water to Shah, Sachdeva, Saini, and Gandhi for consumption.

The AAP leaders left the bottles outside the BJP office when stopped by police. They accused the BJP of attempting to make Delhi residents drink toxic water. The BJP should feel ashamed, Singh remarked.

BJP's Response to AAP's Accusations

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor responded by questioning whether Kejriwal drinks raw Yamuna water. He explained that Delhi's water is purified at treatment plants before distribution. Kapoor noted that 90% of Delhi's drinking water from Haryana comes via specially constructed canals and pipelines, not directly from the Yamuna.

Kapoor also highlighted that 55% of Delhi's water supply originates from Sonia Vihar plant, which receives raw water from Ganga Canal in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh. This clarification aimed to address concerns about the source and safety of Delhi's water supply.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions between AAP and BJP over environmental and public health issues in Delhi. Both parties continue to engage in heated exchanges over the quality and safety of water supplied to the capital's residents.
