AAP Alleges BJP Sabotages Delhi Cleanliness with Illegal Dumping

Senior AAP leader and Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti on Sunday accused the BJP of attempting to sabotage the Kejriwal government's clean Delhi initiative by illegally dumping garbage to tarnish the AAP-led MCD's reputation. There was no immediate response from the BJP regarding Bharti's allegations.

AAP-BJP Clash Over Delhi Cleanliness

Bharti claimed that opposition parties, including the BJP and Congress, have been consistently trying to disrupt the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) since AAP took control. He suggested that these parties are conspiring to undermine Arvind Kejriwal's efforts to keep Delhi clean.

Allegations of Illegal Dumping

Bharti recounted receiving a call from an MCD executive engineer late at night, reporting that a truck was unloading debris near Aurobindo College, just 50 metres from the Malviya Nagar Police Station on MMTC Road. "The MCD official on duty, who resisted the move, was threatened with a knife and pistol by the people who got off two cars moving behind the truck full of debris," Bharti alleged.

Upon arriving at the scene, Bharti found the MCD official visibly shaken. He expressed shock that such an incident could occur so close to a police station. "It was absolutely shocking as the site is hardly 50 metres away from the Malviya Nagar Police Station," he charged.

Political Interference

Addressing a press conference, Bharti accused opposition parties of being unhappy with AAP's governance in MCD and repeatedly trying to hinder its operations. "For political reasons, ever since AAP has come to power in MCD, the BJP and the Congress decided to put hurdles in the functioning of the municipal body," he said.

The sudden appearance of garbage at various locations in Malviya Nagar prompted questions about who might be responsible. Bharti urged that those involved be held accountable. "As the Delhi Police comes directly under the lieutenant governor and the BJP-led Centre, they must book the culprits," he stated.

Bharti's allegations highlight ongoing tensions between AAP and opposition parties over control and management of Delhi's civic issues. The situation underscores broader political conflicts affecting local governance and public services in the capital.
