There has been disparity in the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations in Odisha. The BJP has demanded that the recommendations for block grant teachers and low paid employees must be announced.

7th Pay Commission: Why were block grant teachers ignored

The BJP alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the recommendations for the lakhs of State government employees but he forgot the plight of the block grant teachers who have been sitting on the road at Lower PMG here since August 16.

"What about the low paid employees working in NACs, Municipalities and Corporations who are having a miserable financial condition? Why this partiality?" questioned BJP's State president Basant Panda.

Addressing a press conference Panda said the government must announce benefits under the 7th Pay Commission for the block grant teachers and other low paid employees.

"It's an irony that the government is not impartial towards the plight of the people in the State; such inequality in pay is not acceptable," said Panda, adding that the revised pay implementation is also necessary for the employees in public sector undertakings.

The CM had announced implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for nearly 4.5 lakh State government employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners following which there would be a 14.5 per cent hike in the basic pay of each employee while the overall salary will be hiked by 23 per cent.
