7th Pay Commission: List Of States Announcing DA Hike For Employees
Following the Centre's announcement of a DA hike for government employees last week, several states have also recently announced similar hikes to provide a significant boost amid rising inflation. This increase, totaling 4% in dearness allowance, will undoubtedly bring cheer to these government employees. Here is a list of states that have raised the DA for their employees.
TN Govt Hikes DA by 4%

Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that the Dearness Allowance of state government employees, teachers and pensioners will be hiked by 4%. According to the order the DA has been increased from present 46% to 50% with effect from 01.01.2024, on par with that of union government staff. This will cause an additional expenditure of Rs 2587.91 crores for the exchequer.
UP Govt Announces 4% DA Hike for Employees and Pensioners
The Yogi Adityanath government has announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners as a Holi gift. This decision is expected to benefit approximately 10 lakh employees, 12 lakh pensioners, and 8 lakh teachers in Uttar Pradesh.
The revised DA, effective from January 2024, will increase the current 46% DA to 50%. The state government will issue a notification soon regarding this increase, which will impose an additional burden of Rs 314 crore on the state's finances.
Gujarat Govt Increases DA by 4%, Introduces Other Benefits
In a Holi bonanza, the Gujarat government has raised the DA for state employees by 4%, along with increasing its NPS contribution by the same percentage. Additionally, the LTC cash conversion will now be based on the 7th Pay Commission. These changes are effective immediately.
With this hike, the total DA for Gujarat government employees rises to 46%. The government has also announced arrears for the past eight months, benefiting around 4.45 lakh state employees and 4.63 lakh pensioners.
Uttarakhand Raises DA by 4% for Government Employees
In January, the Uttarakhand government increased the DA for its employees by 4%, raising the total DA from 42% to 46%. This revision, effective from July 1, 2023, will also provide arrears to beneficiaries in cash. The hike applies to state government employees, as well as regularized and full-time employees of aided educational and technical education institutes.
Karnataka Raises DA by 4% for Government Employees
The Karnataka government has approved an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees from 38.75% to 42.5%. For those in the Central Pay Scale, this translates to an increase from 46% to 50%. This change will contribute significantly to the economy, amounting to Rs 1792.71 crore annually.
