60 Indians Rescued From Cybercrime Rings In Cambodia, Return Home
In a significant development, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia has successfully facilitated the return of 60 Indian nationals back to their homeland. These individuals were previously trapped in Cambodia due to cyber fraud orchestrated by trafficking rackets. The embassy took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the news, expressing gratitude towards the Cambodian authorities for their assistance in this operation.
The rescued Indians found themselves in a harrowing situation after being lured by the promise of high-paying jobs. Upon arrival in Cambodia, they were coerced into participating in cybercrime syndicates, far removed from the opportunities they were promised. In response to this distressing situation, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia promptly set up a temporary control room in Sihanoukville. This strategic move was aimed at aiding numerous Indian nationals, especially those from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, who were forcibly involved in these criminal activities.

A dedicated team from the embassy was dispatched to Sihanoukville to assist in the repatriation process. The embassy's efforts, in collaboration with local authorities, have led to the rescue and repatriation of nearly 360 Indian nationals involved in these fraudulent schemes. Among them, approximately 60 were rescued on May 20, highlighting the embassy's proactive approach in securing their safe return.
In light of these events, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a crucial advisory for Indian nationals seeking employment in Laos and Cambodia. The advisory warns against fake employment agents operating within the region and India. These unscrupulous agents are deceiving individuals into joining companies engaged in cybercrimes. The ministry strongly advises job seekers to secure employment through agents duly authorized by the Ministry of External Affairs of India, ensuring a legitimate and safe employment process.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and due diligence when pursuing employment opportunities abroad. The collaborative efforts of the Indian Embassy in Cambodia and the support of Cambodian authorities have been instrumental in bringing relief to the victims of this scam, reaffirming the commitment to protect the welfare of Indian nationals globally.
