6 Japanese Encephalitis cases detected in Nagaland

Kohima, Aug 8: Six cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been detected in the past one week in Nagaland, state government today said. While five cases were reported from Dimapur district bordering Assam, one was found in Tuensang district bordering Myanmar, a release by the State Health and Family Welfare Department said here today.

Another suspected case at Tuli in Mokokchung district was yet to be confirmed, the release said, adding, the patients were being treated in various hospitals of the state.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has set up district control rooms in all district headquarters for reporting, investigating, and controlling the outbreak of the disease.

Joint Director and Special Programme Officer, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Dr P Tia, said for any illness resembling Japanese Encephalitis, the patient should approach the nearest health centre or hospital.

Stressing on mass awareness to contain the disease, Tia, in a release yesterday urged people to prevent mosquito breeding and, at the same time, adopt measures to prevent mosquito bites.
