Four women were killed after a large mound of soil collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district on Tuesday, trapping several women beneath it. The women had reportedly gathered at the site to collect soil for household use when the mound, which appeared stable, suddenly gave way.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and details about the number of casualties and injuries are still being confirmed.

Kasganj District Magistrate Medha Roopam informed ANI, "Nine women have been rescued, and four of them were declared dead upon arrival at the district hospital. The others have sustained injuries. The rescue operation was carried out effectively, with the area being thoroughly checked using JCBs and excavators. There is minimal chance of anyone else being trapped. Work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was taking place at the site. We will take appropriate action against those responsible for any negligence. It is reported that the women had come to collect soil for their homes. We will speak to the surviving women for further details."
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences over the incident and has taken cognizance of the situation. He offered his sympathies to the victims' families and has instructed district authorities to ensure immediate medical care for the injured, ensuring they are transported to hospitals without delay.
The incident occurred in the rural outskirts of Kasganj, where collecting soil is a common activity among local women for various household purposes. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collapse and have launched an investigation into the matter.
