Good News: 24-week paid maternity leave, flexible working hours offered at Flipkart

Flipkart, one of the most successful e-commerce sites of the country, made all its women employees happy. The company announced that it would allow its women employees to take a 24-week paid maternity leave.

The company not only extended maternity leave from 12 weeks to 24 weeks but it also announced that new mothers can work in a flexible hours for next four months with full pay. If needed, the women employees take one year career break without pay.

Flipkart has taken this new initiatives to attract and retain women employees. With its latest announcement on extended maternity leaves, Flipkart joined companies like Accenture, Vodafone, companies which want to make the workplace more attractive for women.

Spokesperson of the company, while speaking to a daily, was quoted as saying, "Flipkart aspires to be a change catalyst in society which has its age-old conditioning of gender biases."

"As an e-commerce leader, which has pioneered change in India, we also want to be a catalyst for a change in the way our society works and that's one of the bigger community causes that we want to contribute to," she added while speaking about Flipkart's decision of extending the period of maternity leave.
