21-Year-Old Woman Jumps Into Waterfalls After Her Parents Scolded Her Over Excessive Mobile Use
Saraswati Maurya, a 21-year-old woman from Sukma, Chhattisgarh, attempted suicide by jumping into Chitrakote Waterfalls on Tuesday after her parents scolded her for excessive mobile phone use.
A shocking video has emerged which shows the moment a Saraswati jumps from a height of 90 feet. The incident took place in the Chitrakoot Chowki area of Bastar.

Despite pleas from onlookers urging her not to jump, the girl proceeded to the edge of the waterfall, where she leaped into the water. The entire incident was recorded by bystanders and quickly circulated on social media. However, Saraswati quickly realised what she had done and tried to swim back to safety. A rescue boat arrived on the scene in time and rescued her.
The video showcases the grandeur of the Chitrakote Waterfalls, often referred to as the "mini Niagara Falls" by locals due to its impressive size.
Situated on the Indravati River, approximately 38 km from Jagdalpur, the Chitrakote Waterfalls span about 300 meters in width during the monsoon season.
Local authorities launched an investigation after being informed about the incident. It was revealed that the girl's extreme action was prompted by being scolded by her parents for phone usage.
Saraswati is currently in stable condition and is being treated for her injuries. She is receiving counselling to help her cope with the emotional distress that led to her suicide attempt.
