21 dead, several missing as boat capsizes at Port Blair in Andamans

New Delhi, Jan 26: At least 21 people have been reportedly died and several are missing after a tourist

capsized near Port Blair in

and Nicobar Islands.

P Jawahar, the deputy commissioner of Nicobar, has confirmed the deaths.

Lieutenant governor Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh said that the boat called Aqua Marine capsized between 3.45 pm and 4 pm, according to NDTV.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa condoled the deaths

The boat was travelling between Ross Island and North Bay, P Jawahar said talking to a news channel. It had around 40 to 43 people on board, according to the reports. 13 of them have been rescued so far. The rest are missing.

The rescue operations are on. The injured are being treated at GB Pant hospital. An ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh has been announced.
