17 SIMI men acquitted by Hubbali court

Bengaluru, April 30: The 1st Additional Magistrate court in Hubbali has acquitted 17 suspected SIMI activitsts in connection with various cases of terror.

The police had arrested these persons after alleging that they were planning subversive activities in the state.

What the police had alleged

The police which conducted a series of raids arrested several persons from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) also on January 30, 2008. It was alleged that they were involved in acts of terror and planned a series of blasts in coastal and North Karnataka.

The court while hearing the matter observed in its order that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against all these persons. It said that it was acquitting all the accused in the case in the absence of any concrete evidence being brought on record.
